SCENE WORK: Based on each actor’s resume and geography, Larry will select and assign scenes and scene partners prior to the beginning of the retreat so that each scene is memorized and rehearsed (if geographically possible). Through specific exercises and detailed character/script analysis the actor will fully realize and serve the play’s themes with clarity and purpose.

MONOLOGUE: Each actor must choose and prepare a monologue from a published play that requires a specific accent that is not their own. Each monologue should not exceed 10 minutes.

SONG: Each actor must prepare a song whether you are a trained singer or not. Focus will be on breath, relaxation, vocal reproduction, and interpretation of the song. For accompaniment you may bring an instrumental version on CD/cassette, sheet music for piano, or sing a cappella.

Larry’s Actors Retreat will take place on the main stage of Peconic Landing’s Art and Cultural Center, also located in Greenport, New York.

MFI retreat actors stay at the Sunset Motel in Greenport, New York, an hour and a half from Manhattan. Situated on a sprawling lawn, all rooms have private screened porches that overlook the Long Island Sound. The Sunset Motel has its own private beach, which is ours to enjoy exclusively. Each room has a fully equipped kitchenette. Vans and MFI drivers will take students to and from classes, and can be scheduled for drives into town where you can enjoy several excellent restaurants only a stone’s throw away.
